My Impact Pioneers
Gunraagh Talwar is an architect and innovator of waste to resource strategies. He grew up in Delhi, watching landfills grow and rivers become more and more polluted. In fact, 11,000 tons of waste are produced in Delhi per day. He explained how usually rivers become a drain and buildings become a dump. To address the issue of legacy waste management, Gunraagh developed an upcycled construction block crafted from legacy waste called Dumpcrete which serves as a circular construction alternative.
Now, he is setting up a company to invent, manufacture, and scale up Dumpcrete and other building materials from recycled waste. Through this initiative, he aims to generate jobs for marginalized communities. Gunraagh stated that what inspires him to pursue these projects is the number of people that they are impacting, for his purpose is to benefit as many people as possible.
As he scales up, he aims to stay focused on the long-term vision and process. Ultimately, his vision is to create a closed-loop system for recycling in Delhi and to enhance circular economy principles and practices in India. Gunraagh is inspired by other initiatives that he’s seen scale up from small-scale to enterprise, such as India’s first private space company, Skyroot Aerospace. He is also inspired by the UN Youth at Large network, working to expand access to inclusive, resilience, safe, and eco-friendly habitats.
