My Impact Pioneers
Kristin Slavin is an architect, sustainability lead, and product manager for prefabricated mass timber building parts. Through collaboration with cross-functional and diverse teams, Kristin developed, designed, and built multiple groundbreaking mass timber projects, pushed the code boundaries through testing, research, and digital BIM modeling, became well versed in the manufacturing process and supply chain from forest to frame, and advanced pre-fabrication of buildings using sustainable materials.
Kristin’s interest in designing with wood started at Path Architecture where she worked on The Radiator, a 5-story heavy timber office building. Following the completion of that project, she served as the Project Architect for Carbon 12, the tallest mass timber building in the USA. This 8-story tower rises approximately 85 feet tall, which is a remarkable feat for mass timber construction.
Kristin admires many individuals stepping out to make social and environmental impact through different industries and initiatives. She encourages women especially to not be afraid to try something new and to initiate innovative ideas with confidence. In addition, for individuals looking to make a difference in decarbonizing buildings, she recommends moving to a place with no mass timber code/community and embracing the challenge to bridge those areas to the international mass timber movement.
